Odoo has become too Mercenary. Abandoning Odoo and evaluating alternative replacement options. - Trying ERPNext
-
Unfortunately the opensource community in the last 10 years is killing the goose that laid the golden egg. The new generation of coders who don't know what it was like before opensource, are shooting themselves in the foot by becoming increasingly mercenary in their opensource approach. We saw this with Plone, and now with Odoo. So now we need to find another alternative, one again.

Open Source, like Plone, becoming too mercenary?
-
It seems in recent years a number of the "open source" communities have become exponentially mercenary, scaling down the core of products to try to force paid development or add ons. Plone is just one of many examples of this unfortunate trend in the open source community (which I have been a part of since the 1980s)...

OpenSuse LEAP 42.2 Worst Version of Suse Yet! (on Asus ROG)
-
From a stability perspective, this has been the worst OpenSuse Release in years! I reached a point I needed to clean up some clutter on my primary laptop (running OpenSuse 13.2), so I backed up, and wiped (while retaining the windows partitions for the few video games I play with my kids), and installed OpenSuse LEAP 42.2. Here is how it went...

Our Top and Ongoing Woes with Odoo
-
We've been using Odoo back in the OpenERP days, but still struggle with some core problems in the design of this platform. It meets our needs for our various small companies, but there is significant pain associated. Unfortunately we haven't found a better fit over all these years to the feature set we need. Here is a list of the challenges/problems we keep running into spanning Odoo versions 11 through 15 and ongoing...

Q4os Linux on Dell 2 in 1 XPS
-
Since Cent OS 7 was never able to fully support my hardware, and Cent OS 8 doesn't support any of the software I need (see the previous postings), I had to drop CentOS from laptop use. After some research I'm trying out Q4os to see if it can address both the hardware and software requirements. Here are notes on the process...

Rough Week! Alienware M18 Blew Up and Burned! Meanwhile Installing Q4OS TDE on Alienware M16
-
The first part of this posting covers my primary productivity system, Alienware M18 blowing itself up, in the middle of a remarkably rough week and last few months. The second part provides information on the installation and use of Q4OS (Debian 12 bookworm) with Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) on Dell Alienware M16 R1/0TC7T8 (the latter going surprisingly well).

Scalable Jitsi, Ansible automation, [matrix], bots, ASR, AI, ML, DNN
-
Wrapping up work on automated scalability of Jitsi (self-hosted 20k+ concurrent users) through combination of Ansible scripts, Docker, containerd, Kubernetes, etc., in AWS and vSphere. Looking forward to resuming previous years work on Matrix distributed data and communications self-hosted federated platform adapted for education, implementing Automated Speech Recognition (ASR), bots, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and distributed Deep Neural Networks (DNN).

Trying to get Plone working on OpenBSD (part deux) - SUCCESS! (update: well, mostly)
-
Years ago I fought with trying to get Plone to work on OpenBSD, to no avail. Recently I was able to get Plone 4.3 working on OpenBSD 6.0, but not Plone 5.0.6.. I was finally able to get Plone 5.0.7 Unified Installer working on OpenBSD 6.1!
